I can't eat meat from animals that are cute..... especially Lamb..I used to eat it years ago, but on a wonderful 1,200 mile tour of Scotland 7yrs ago I saw nothing but beautiful little lambs ambling along with their mothers, can't bare thoughts of eating it now...Aaaghhh, and Venison...who on earth could eat Bambi !! it makes me shudder... Rabbit, No No...way too cute.....I have no problem eating Pig, Cow, Chicken, and yet even those are cute when babies.... strange isn't it
Does anyone else not eat them for this silly reason ?

No...as long as I can buy that meat fully dressed and wrapped under cellophane, I have no problem eating it.
It's the EYES that do it to me, though. If I come across ANYTHING that still has eyes attached, I can't even stand looking at it, let alone attempting to put parts of it in my mouth!
For example...I dearly LOVE shrimp. But if I happen to be in a restaurant that serves them without first peeling them I have to send it right back. I can not stand seeing those black beady eyes staring at me.
I gave up shucking my own lobsters long ago. Now the most I can accomplish is to order a lobster tail and ask for it to be shucked BEFORE it comes to the table...I certainly can't do it myself.
(Not that I can AFFORD very many lobster tails since I quit working!)
Most meat in restaurants is okay. Except for roast suckling pig. THEY are served whole!

I like your question. I can't imagine how beautiful your tour of Scotland must have been.
I really love animals a well... My kids think all animals are cute too. We'll be watching Discovery Channel, and a show about Sharks or Cobras will be on, and my three year old will say, "Aww, he's cute.." It's really funny.
But the main point of my response is to reply to your question of, "who on earth could eat Bambi?": I live in Western Pennsylvania. This is big-time deer hunting land. There are Bambi's everywhere. They'll come out of the woods, and walk across your front yard. By necessity Cities and Borough's often have to hire expert bow hunters to reduce the populations of deer in parks and residential areas.
So, as cute as they are, they begin to loose their Bambi affect after awhile. Plus, Venison is really tasty, very lean, and has a great taste to it.

I feel exactly the same way you do. Lamb used to be my favourite meat but now I cant eat meat because I get a picture in my mind of the animals in the fields.
I have decided to go vegetarian because i just cant stand meat anymore.
I went and bought a book called. The Complete Idiots guide to Vegetarian. I highly recommend this book. It is not expensive and it goes into details about everything you could possibly want to know. It also has a 12 week transition guide from meat eating to vegetarian. Its brilliant, go buy it and go vege like me.

I love meat, except for offal. and rabbit. I honestly think that you need meat for iron, although a lot of veggies have iron.
For me there is nothing like a lovely roast lamb, garlic, herbs, and Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. I also enjoy steak and especially sirloin. I don't have a problem with chicken as long as it is roasted, or in a Chicken a La King. And for any south Africans out there, HOW could we live without our Boerewors? Hard to find when you live in Australia. Oh, and I forgot Biltong. Yum.

I understand your point of view. I have one daughter that will not eat anything with a face. But another daughter lives in Wisconsin and she and her husband hunt and fish and raise a few cows. This is their protein and only source of meat. They do not buy meat. They fill two freezers and feed themselves and 3 children from the bounty. She called thrilled that she shot her first turkey earlier this week. They ice fish all winter. But then I guess none exept the deer are actually cute.

I'm a bit like you but the things I can't eat are the types of animal that I have had as pets in the past. I could never eat rabbit and a few years ago I had a pet duck and there is absolutely no way I could ever eat duck now. When it was alive it occasionally laid the odd egg but I couldn't eat one, my husband did and I couldn't even watch him eat it and refused to cook them for him. I always thought that eating our Daisy's eggs would have been like eating her babies, ridiculous isn't it as I eat chicken all the time! My friend's daughter is like you she refuses to eat anything with a cute face and as she thinks chickens are ugly she'll eat that. Funny creatures us humans aren't we!!

Nope, the animals looks don't stop me....but I do have problems eating meat from animals I never thought of as being edible...
Last evening I stopped in the grocers to pick up some meat for a spaghetti sauce I was to make and saw a package of ground Buffalo meat - I was immediately repulsed! BUFFALO?
Yuck!
PS - I saw where somewhere ^ there had made mention of suckling pig. In the late 50's my parents and I went to what supposed to be this renowned restaurant in Paris that served roasted suckling pig. Unbeknownst to us, they served the pig WHOLE, head, tail and all crouching on a platter with a crabapple in its mouth...NONE of us ate it! lol

Dear Denice,
Its a fact of life that as we are at the top of the food chain, unless you swim too near a shark!! that lambs and other cute creatures are used as food, if we all turned veggie then farmers would not have fields full of lambs, why bother if no profit? cows would only be used for milk production, as they are calved all boy calf's would be killed as they no use, being veggie is a way of life for some but not all, I for one enjoy my kebabs and burgers and I do know where it all comes from, good luck anyway, but keep up your protein content. C. xx

I used to think like that. Best thing to do is to eat organic meat and veg. At least that way you know the animal has had a long, happy, natural life. I do things to make myself fell better like not eating baby things. (baby mushrooms, tomatoes) I cant justify killing something when its young purely for convenience.
But yeah, organic meat. Free range eggs. That way you can say, if I didn't eat it the birds and bugs would have eaten it.

Well, I can say that Bambi tastes really good it cooked right. So does Yogi Bear if you like heavy meat. All the other stuff is good too. Roger rabbitt is good, right tasty. House cat is all white meat, good for you. Rat isn't too bad if cooked slowly, like bear meat. I guess I am just a sicko carnivore. I eat it if it is cooked and put in front of me. Food is food as far as I am concerned. If someone else can eat it, I can too.
