I only recently bought my car and yesterday was my first day of driving it. My father noticed a noise when I take my foot off the clutch fully, a knocking noise is the best way that I can think to describe it. The car has recently had a new battery, alternator and timing belt though so could these need to settle in or something? Apart from that its really good, it was lovely and smooth on the motorway when my father drove it back so no complaints there. Any ideas? Thanks!

It doesn't happen when I accelerate. Only when my car is in neutral and I have not got my foot or hands touching anything. I'll get it checked out

This sounds like your throw out bearing is making a chatter. Not sure what year that car is, but its age may justfiy a complete checkout. Noises are hard to determine online, but you noticed it when your foot came off the clutch. This is a tell tale sign that it could be a throw out bearing chatter. You really need to get into a shop where they can use stethoscopes to find the noise

Start with the simple things first. When car is stationary and out of gear, can you hear the 'knocking' when you rev the engine. If so then have it checked at a good garage as it could be something serious.
Does the noise come on only when you are going slowly and you have just taken your foot off the clutch pedal. If so it could be something simple like ignition timing (the noise you hear could be 'pinking') Only needs the timing adjusting.
Naturally there are numerous things it could be, but some experiments could tell you exactly when it occurs so you can tell the garage what it happening.

I dont know much about Engines only what I have been told over the years ,but it could be the Tappets on the Engine it wont do any harm but reduces the Efficiency of the Engine. You will have to have it fixed in Garage, either way you will have to get your car checked out to see what the problem is. Good Luck.

commence with the easy issues first. whilst vehicle is table sure and out of drugs, are you able to hearken to the 'knocking' once you rev the engine. if so then have it checked at a stable storage because it must be some thing intense. Does the noise come on in straightforward terms once you're going slowly and you have purely taken your foot off the snatch pedal. if so it must be some thing straightforward like ignition timing (the noise you hear must be 'pinking') in straightforward terms desires the timing adjusting. needless to say there are multiple issues it must be, yet some experiments ought to enable you to recognize precisely whilst it happens so which you will tell the storage what it happening.

if you hear the noise as the clutch is engaged then you either have a clutch issue, or a linkage issue. the term knocking to most of us means something a little different then what you are trying to describe to us. you say knock, i hear an engine saying OUCH THIS HURTS!
... and no a belt does not need to settle.

if it is a loud knocking noise it could be bad, like head gasket boom bad - but to be honest a fiesta is a common enough car to get a refurbished engine fairly cheaply.

Get it checked out by a professional (a dude in a garage might just tell you off the top of his head) if you are seriously worried - if not drive it carefully until its next due in and ask them to check it out!

could be a rod knock, meaning youre gonna need a new engine, one of the pistons came loose and is hitting the side of the engine...VERY serious matter, have it looked at immediatley, that is, if you dont want to be stranded in the middle of timbucktu, but if you dont care, drive away!
