In my hayes manual it sais I can use engine oil 10w/40 yet
Local garage said NO use transmission oil
Shop : only has manual castrol 80W or castrol SMX-S transmission oil.

So how came the manual sais viscosity 40 yet you can only buy 80... there is a huge difference there in viscosity so what should i use and most important why is it safe to use 80 when manual sais 40 viscosity

ill tell you this, the books i have used in a shop for 15 years now all say about the same thing. up until 1995 you can use either 1030 or 1040, the latter is better for more freeway driving. '96 changed to a fluid that is just better to get from the dealer. if you use the 80w, you will feel a difference, more difficult to shift i would just bet.

either use 10/30 or your honda MTF . do not put 80w in your vehicle , won't be shifting too easily .
