Encouraging that idea that History should be an impartial study to find the truth, instead of national propaganda like it was with other countries (and still is, in many).
And being confident enough to admit we are not perfect.
Fighting alone against the Nazis in 1940, of course.
Also abolishing slavery in 1807 and supressing the slave trade later in Europe and around the world (which today we are told we should apologise for!)

Shakespeare, taught in almost every country in the world. Never losing a war (the US revolt was British on British and ended in a stalemate), inventing every decent world sport (football, rugby, cricket, boxing, F1, tennis, badminton, ping pong), the industrial revolution.

The fact that even in recent times we produce the world's most famous-

sportsman- David Beckham
scientist- Stephen Hawking
writer- J.K Rowling

And all the things that everyone else has said.

Inventors and their inventions. Hardly anything in our homes and lives escapes having a British touch to it. Television (Baird), radio (Marconi) although born in Italy he conducted much of his work in the UK. The fax machine, the internet, the jet engine (Whittle) Tarmacadam (Scottish) Tagamet the ulcer drug, Beta Blockers for hearts by Black (Scottish). The steam engine, the list goes on.

1.Civil Liberty and the right to freely express ourselves in a democrarcy.

2. The fact that we do not need a formal written constitution to tell us what are our rights are or to ensure that our politicians govern fairly.

3. The trades union movement

4. The fact that our country will come to the aid of weaker countries.

5. That 4 separate countries maintain their own identity through friendly rivalry (and now regional government) but will always stand as one against threat and for freedom.

We have a fair minded policy to people from other countries
and a tolerant attitude (in the main).More so than many other countries.
