My friend had a dog named Nietzsche (sp?) after the philosopher. And my dad had a dog when he was a kid named Puddles for obvious reasons. My sister had a dog named Oaky who recently passed away. She got the name from a dream she had where she had a blue dog that could talk and its name was Oaky. And my brother had two anoles (a lizard type thing), one named Rep and one named Tile. And my 2 year old has 2 kittens one named "Back" (because hes black and thats how she pronounces it) and one named "Oinj" (because hes orange).

My ex husband named the cat Possum
As a child, I had a dog named Butterbean...
My 3 year old grandaughter has named her goldfish Pork Chop.. we still don't know why...

I think that a dog named "Dog" or a cat named "Kitty" or "Cat" is just wrong and strange. It makes me think the person was too lazy to pick a name so they just called it what it was. It's like calling a child "Kid" if you know what I mean.

Our dog is called Plonker.Everytime we take him to the vet's though,we call him Ben.
