It has always been said that the south will rise again. Do you think that we may actually see it in our lifetime. One can only hope.

Yes, I do. The institution of slavery will not make a come back, that's not what the phrase "the South will raise again" means. I believe that this country is on the verge of being permanently fractured because we're so divided on so many issues.

The military invasion and total destruction of ¨the South¨( an independent political and economic entity with legal rights to secession) was the first real undertaking by the U.S .motivated by the doctrine of Manifest Destiny-the belief that we as a nation had and have the Godgiven right to impose by any means our will on others-.

The U.S. was so successful in the annihilation of ¨the South¨and deconstructed it so thoroughly and rebuilt it in its own image that whatever may rise again from that geographical area -if anything does- it will bear no resemblance to the pre-war reality.

The U.S.'s military and propagandistic success over ¨the South¨ strengthened the idea in people's minds that we were a messianic country with a manifest mission to spread and enforce our nation's beliefs, first over the whole continent and then the world. We have never looked back. This myth- that we are somehow blessed as
a nation and entrusted with a divine mission- permeates our national psyche so deeply that it is difficult to get us to examine our actions with balanced equanimity.

Yep, right after the Cherokee people. Nope, sorry slavery will never return... now if your referring to state rights, I'd say yeah I agree with that, the federal government is making too many pointless laws, to keep all this power.

Yeah, the dimwits in the south are going to rise up and defeat the better educated, richer, and more unified northern states. Give me a break. The south is the toilet of America made up of racist uneducated poor christian conservatives and annoying christian progessives. Becoming a separate country would only hurt them... if they became their own country where would they get their welfare checks?

Positive for the south = They have more guns than the north.

Positive for the rest of the country = Southerners are too dumb to win a war. (see Iraq)
