they made only 40 1943 copper pennies i need to know how many are accounted for and how many are still out their somewhere.

They did not make 40 1943 Copper cents. There are no records as to how many were made and that figure is way to high. There are maybe 12 or so, if that many, from all the mints. The coin comes up for sale so little, that most have pedigrees. Copper plated zinc coated steel cents are all over the place and a magnet detects them. There are a few copper cents that the last digit has been change but they kind of stick out . No new ones have shown up for years.
