Conner's sword originally belonged to Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez. Ramirez got the sword as a gift from his third wifes father in 593 B.C. His father in law was a metallurgist who fold the steal of the sword over 100 times. Conner got the sword after Ramirez lost the fight to the Kurgen.
I have never understood Duncan's sword from the TV series. It looks just like Conners. I suppose they didn't want to upset fans of the movie and have the highlanders sword be different, which makes no sense.

Are you referring to Connor's sword? I found this site:

Yes, it's a sales site, but the important information is at the beginning, explaining the history of the katana. There's even a picture in which Ramirez presents the weapon to Connor MacLeod!

There's a story behind Duncan MacLeod's katana, too. Which were you asking about?

Duncan's sword came from a shogun in Japan's feudal time, when all non-Japanese were to be executed on sight. Since Duncan was shipwrecked, he was saved by this man. Eventually, he had to commit ritual suicide after Duncan swore to protect his family forever. He was given the sword then.

The handle is different from Connor's. Several places still sell them both as well as the McCloud family broadsword.
