I agree with the what it means to you answer. I have a ton of money in my car because I love it....Used to be perfect now it's a rustbomb. Someday I'll keep the motor and junk the car, it's worth twenty times what the car is worth. If it makes you happy then fix it...

She's 12 year old you have to decide to quit while your ahead or start spending money I had a 96 Mondeo TD I loved but the diesel pump went I now drive an 02 Citroen Xsara TD 110 bph drives like a petrol with the economy of a diesel and you can pick these up cheap enough bought mine in Feb with 4 months tax and ticket £2700

some people like their car so much they will spend the money on it as it a loyal servant and does not ask much for its service most of the time, but now and again and only if it is now and again they will have a hiccup, so if this the only thing wrong and you feel it has a year or two left in it go for a steering rack you might get a decent second had unit ( price it up phone this number 01268 724524, Af-ford-able spares based in pitsea , Essex) they might be able to fit for you as well or if you are a bit of a have a go grease monkey do it yourself.
Have fun only you can make the decision in the end.

I dont think that steering racks are all that expensive compared with some other things on a car. If you buy another second hand car, you'll only be buying another set of problems that could end up worse.

I had a car that I loved, the automatic gear box went, so I paid over £1000 to get it repaired, the car was worth less than that.

Two days after getting it back someone pulled out of a side road and hit it full on, sent me and the car to the other side of the road, it was a right off.

Karma?

depends what the car means to you mate,
is she still new looking, is the miles high?
what will it cost to fix? could you get a better car for that price with a full years ticket on it for that?

so it is up to you, me i would weigh up the cost of repairs and see if i could get a better car for that price ,not knocking you but after all it is a 12 year old ford and not worth a lot now a days

kind regards x kitti x

It is always a lot cheaper to fix a car that runs good otherwise than it is to buy a new one that will loose 60% of its value in the first 4 years.

I personally would, im not that great on cars but considering its age and if its served u well a bit of wear and tear is worth repairing? My boyfriend is having problems with his car at the moment and my advice is if it comes to more than 150 to cut his losses and sell it but if not to give it a chance!

Yes, Being is that I work at a dealership that is a pretty cheap fix compared to some other problems. I would get it fixed and continue driving it as long as it runs good.

No you would be better off putting the money in towards a newer model ,once a car gets over ten years old over 100K miles ,it's like a money box your forever paying for repairs, scrap it or sell it on Ebay.
