Some people commit suicide because of emotional problems, and so I wonder.

I'd say it's relative to ones threshold for either.

Short of losing limbs or something like that, the effects of emotional pain are usually more severe and last much longer. So I don't know if the actual pain is more or less, but the "effects" of emotional pain are usually worse. Also the mind has a wierd way of voiding out moments of extreme physical pain,we experince them but can't remember them, for good cause, not so with severe emotional pain.

It would be nice if the brain could void out moments of extreme emotional pain, but then it wouldn't be emotional... would it?

Some people commit suicide because of physical pain, also. And, I imagine many more would commit suicide if euthanasia were legalized. I think it depends on the severity of the pain in either case, and the pain threshold of the individual involved. Patients in the burn unit of a hospital are in the most physically excrutiating pain. I hope I never find out how that compares to the most horrific emotional pain imaginable, which in my case would be some unspeakable thing happening to one of my daughters.

I totally agree that emotional pain is worse because physical pain eventually goes away. As for emotional pain, it seems to stick with you. Depending on the situation.

I think emotional pain hurts worse because physical pain goes away eventually and emotional pain can last forever.

i think that both pain is hurtful and destructive. both has the capability to give us immeasurable pain. some say emotional pain is greater, well yes, cause it's buried deep inside you and it hurts because words and emotions is what we live by. but pain. . .well, that's something too. look at those battered wives, abused children. they have the scars to prove how painful their life is. so either way, i think they have the same capacity to induce pain and can damage our view on life as something wonderful and happy. * i do hope that pain in all forms will go away. =) i, myself, admits that pain is something i fear the most. i think i won't be able to hold it.

Yes! By far. You can forget physical pain much easier than emotional.

Definetly, I'm a recovering cutter so I know for sure that emotional pain is worse and can even lead to physical pain.

emotional pain can go on forever even if your medicated, physical pain can be cut down with the right meds, even numbed out completely, and eventually will heal... emotional pain is the worst.
