i had 2 256 sticks of dual channel im my laptop got a 1gb stick to up grade have one slot left am i running in dual channel mode with just the 1gb stick or do i need 2 sticks to run

ONLY MATCHED PAIR works in dual channel mode. You are currently on single channel mode with that single stick.

yes you have 2 of the same speed and frez to enable dual channel..and 2 ,, 1 gigs would be great.

You DEFINITELY want two 1 gig cards. Unless your max RAM is greater than 2gb. If so, you want to get maybe 2g of ram more. This will unleash the full potential of your processor.
