burn is right. the battery charger will run high voltage and id bet you find some ac voltage in the wires at the same time. this ac voltage can also do some damage to systems in a car or give you headaches due to a check engine light coming on. the cpu does not really under stand ac voltage, there are some signals that the cpu uses to determine some things like vehicle speed, but this is no where the 16 volts that you could find from a battery charger. but if you leave even a dead battery in the vehicle with the charger connected, the ac voltage will be absorbed by the battery, and dc voltage will drop somewhat also.

Sorry i disagree with the other answers.
If you connect a charger direct then the voltage going to the car could be up to 16 volts. This could damage expensive electronic components.
A good charger would not cause this problem, but how do you know the quality of yours?
if there is any doubt just get a second hand battery to sit in the car and connect the charger to this.
The battery would act as a stabilizer and stop excessive current getting to the car.

You can use the current of same voltage which has been recommended for your vehicle, from any source i.e battery or charger etc.

Don't do it for long and for sure don't do anything that requires a huge current draw because you can fry stuff by running it too long and not having enough current going to it...

yes.........you will be able to run certain test,s that don,t require high amperage........don,t make any conclusion,s until a battery is installed.
