What other accessories would you reccommend?
A Flag Tie?
Matching mini flag cuff links?
Socks with red, white and blue lights on them?

Did I miss something on this lapel pin issue? So 'X' amount of years ago, a few politicians decided to make a fashion statement in testament to their patriotism. I get that. But, since when did the fashion accessories of a few become the status quo? I could care less how the politicians choose or choose not to accessorize!! For Christ's sake, its jewelry!

EDIT: Boy, it must reaaaaally sucktobu! Apparently, you don't understand socialism, and how the U.S. has been implementing many 'socialist' type practices for years. Are you not aware that our police and fire departments are set up in that very manner?? DUH!!! Helllooo in there??? Our firemen and policemen are civil servants, whose pay, equipment and training is all supplied by the goverment, using OUR tax dollars. If your house catches on fire they come running to save your sorry behind no matter what. Doesn't matter if you were poor and could not pay very much taxes. They don't get to your door and ask you to provide prooof of taxes paid! Everyone gets their fire put out, no matter what! Socialism is a term out dated at best, and that fact that YOU can't see it going on right before your very eyes just shows your lack of intelligence.

Here, here to the good, young strong liberals! Join me in our crusade to take our country back from these ignorant, biggotted zealots!! Peace!

Barack Obama said it best when he stopped wearing his flag lapel, saying that it is not a real symbol of patriotism. Rather the flag pins only make people think that they can have a quick fix in proving their loyalty to their nation, but then use their own personal convictions to decide what's best for the country without truly understanding everyone's needs.

Patriotism should be about what it is you will do to make the nation a stronger and better place to live, while remembering of course what made the nation great to begin with.

What's your question?

I have no problem with politicians or anyone else wearing flag lapel pins or not wearing them. I have a flag lapel pin on one of my blazers.

Other lapel pins proclaim my participation as a blood donor, my membership in the American Legion, and my status as a military retiree and a civil service retiree.

But I wear them because I like them and it doesn't bother me if people choose not to wear them.

I think it is a non-issue. I served my country, I fly the flag and I think I'm reasonably patriotic. I also have some grasp of the Constitution and its value to all citizens. And I can name my senators and congressman.

And I vote.

But people who do none of these--in many cases--are also citizens and entitled to no less than I am as citizens.

Apparently it used to be essential for Obama in 2008 to continuously put on a 50 cent flag pin made in China continuously. But, on the 2008 GOP Convention, simplest Rudy wore one. I feel it had extra to due with Obama being a Democrat than being black. The Republicans simplest dislike him when you consider that of his 'insurance policies".

No, they shouldn't. And they're not forced to. They're not forced to make a big issue out of it when they decide not to wear patriotic jewelry either. Obama is the one that started the issue.

People can show patriotism any way they like, Alex. It never ceases to amaze me how our young liberals really do sound like socialists wanting to tell everyone how to act, how to worship, how to show their patrotism.

The insult of jingoism is from the Brits who bad-mouth everyone and it's a very old talking point. You think you're making some enlightened statement about patriotism, but all you're doing is criticizing others and telling them how they should act.

Acting like an anti-American Euro isn't enlightened at all - it's just a lot of negativity and insults. Who would want to be like that? Go try living with them and see how depressing it is. I did.

They all have to pretend that they are more patriotic than anyone else.
It's smoke and mirrors.
Wave the flag while they funnel all the money out the back door.
