I enjoyed a Clockwork Orange not only for its unique, interesting, enjoyable language but also for the philosophical value woven into its dark storyline. If I liked this, what other books might you recommend to me?

I'd recommend The Catcher In The Rye -- it's another kind of antihero, a frustrated young person with a totally unique writing voice. Not as deep in dialect as Clockwork Orange, but full of great rhythms and language as well.

There is profound philosophical value -- I feel like the main difference between Alex in CO and Holden in CITR is that Holden doesn't know how to express his emotions yet, while Alex has discovered ultraviolence as his medium to express his joy in life.

You might also try Coraline by Neil Gaiman -- one of the most perfect dark fairytales I've ever read, with a totally unique, disturbing tone.

If you liked the dark, violent philosophy, I'd have to recommend Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.

Good for you! Jude the Obscure, by Thomas Hardy; Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man, by James Joyce; and The Way of All Flesh, by Samuel Butler should provide a good start...

Well I never read the book, only saw the movie. I actually read a book called American Skin earlier last year and to my surprise I actually really enjoyed it.
