How large of a tank and what tankmates?
peaceful community: guppy, platy, swordtail, molly, dwarf gourami, rainbowfish, neon tetra, cardinal tetra, single male betta, single OR 3+ female bettas (don't mix a male with females)
semi-aggressive and aggressive communities: cichlids

Forgive any spelling mistakes... you'll get the gist. Gouramis, male guppies, rainbow fish, some neons can be quite colourful, angel fish (careful who you put them with) The fighting fish, (Beautiful fish but clues in the title, read up on good tank mates for him)

small colorfuk freshwater fish would be sweordtails ,tetras,barbs platys mollies ,bettas . flowerhorn fish are also freshwater and very colorful and playfull but they grow to be quite large so you woulkd need a 50g tank at minimum
