It appears that when you push on the accelerator, the engine draws more air than what is required for proper combustion. If so, the fault could be in air screw of the carburettor which has unscrewed and is letting in more air.Another reason possible is defective paper gasket that is put in between the carbu. and the engine. Please check these aspects. Spitting of the engine also occurs if the wires going from distributor to spark plugs are interchanged by error.

Sounds like a vacuum leak, clogged air filter, or a faulty sensor. I had a 1997 Contour with the V6. The stupid thing started to miss and stutter. After a number of trips to the Ford dealer they finally found it. It was a June bug stuck in a sensor. They didn't tell me which one, so I can't help you there.
Good luck!

AJ got it right. NATE 625 got it right ALEC C got it right. Where do you find a "mechanic", let alone an honest one. I have never seen so many stupid guesses, answers, or whatever. How can anyone put forth a splution when you don't know the problem. I don't even know what we are talking about. The big end has gone. Gone where, whats exactly is a "big end" ?? What is "gone" ?? Definitely need more input. How would you replace an engine from the head gasket down ?? Hey!! Mr. "mechanic", replace my engine from the head gasket down, and untie my tie rods while your at it.

Fuel filter
Dirty air filter
Loose spark plugs
Your transmission fluid should be checked[this is done while engine running]
Bad ignition wire running to the spark plug
Distributer cap[cracked?]
Get the car checked and put on a cpu tester.
Bad timing belt/chain
Fuel pump?
Just a thought,i hope it can be of some help to you

I would start with the basics first. Check the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires. If you can't find anything wrong with these parts then I would probably take it to a mechanic and have a diagnostic test run on it.

Could be azilion things, but fuel filter, sticky carb, fuel pump going out. I suggest you go to parts store, Auto Zone has the manuels. Buy the one for your model. This has everything in it you need to know including trouble shooting.

take it and have the computer scanned on it,you may have a sensor bad on it,or it could just simply need a good tune up,but if its a bad sensor the can detect it with a scanner, auto zone or advance either one will do this for free,so you don't have nothing to loose from doing this, good luck with it.
