y - 2 + 3y = 10
~add the terms that are common~
4y - 2 = 10
4y - 2 + 2 = 10 + 2
4y = 12
4y/4 = 12/4
y = 3
Check:
3 - 2 + 3*3 = 10
3 - 2 + 9 = 10
1 + 9 = 10
10 = 10
Hope that helped you!

Y-2+3Y=10
Step 1 Add like terms:
(Y + 3Y) - 2 = 10
4Y - 2 = 10
Step 2 - Get numerical term on opposite side of equal sign by adding 2 on both sides of equation. When you do the same math on both sides of equation you do not change the value of the equation.
4Y - 2 + 2 = 10 +2
4Y = 12
Step 3 - Eliminate the number in front of the Y by multiplying by 1/4. By multiplying by its reciprocal the value will always be one in front of the Y. Like before what you do on one side of the equation you must do on the other side.
(1/4) x 4 x Y = 12 x (1/4)
Y = 3
Step 4 -You can always test your answer by plugging your value back into the original equation and seeing if both sides are equal. If so you have the right answer:
Y-2+3Y=10
(3) -2 + 3 x (3) = 10
1 + 9 = 10
10 = 10
3 is your answer :>)

y-2+3y=10
move the two to the other side and it will become +2, so:
y+3y=10+2
"y+3y" can be added because thay have the same variable, and so:
4y=12
12 is divisible by 4, so the answer is:
y=3
