"Fuzzy" and white could be either Columnaris or body "fungus". The first is a bacterial infection, but looks much like a fungus because of how it grows. The difference between the two is that Columnaris would have shown up when the fish was alive, the "strands" would be shorter and more matted down so it is harder to make out individual strands, and the infection usually has a circular outline. True fungus rarely attacks a healthy fish, but it will attack one that's stressed, has other wounds, or is dead. The strands are longer and straighter so you can see each strand individually, and the shape is irregular.

If this was the fungus, there's really little you can do to get rid of it completely, as it's in almost every tank and body of water. But as I said previously, it's rarely a problem by itself. If it was Columnaris, it's possible that your male could also get this. Since it is bacterial, water changes and treatment with a good antibiotic like Furanace may be necessary.

A fungus is usually a fuzzy, soft growth on their scales. Ick looks like little white bumps. You probably just didn't notice the ick or fungus soon enough. Sometimes it's hard to see it.

If the white stuff was on her like spots, then that is called ick which is a common fish fungus. It is contagious, but if that is what it was, then they do make a medication you can buy at any pet store for removing ick. I know the name sounds funny but that is the common name. The latin version is much longer.
