The Philadelphia metro, also known as the Delaware Valley, is also a tri-state (PA, NJ, and DE) but is not part of the NYC tri-state area. The two metro areas do border though near Trenton.

The 'Tri-State' around Philly would be either
Maryland- Pennsylvannia- Delaware
or
Pennsylvannia - New Jersey - Delaware
depending upon what TV channel you have on. I always thought there was only one "tri-state" area - New York, New Jersey & Connecticut, but now that I've travelled around I've found that many places refer to a 'tri-state' area and the definition is different.

No It would not be considered tri-state/NYC area.
I am from New York City and on our televison news and radio news programs and the weather forecasting yhr tri=state?NYC area is always condsidered New York New Jersey Connecticout metropolitan tr-state area.
(which means most of New Jersey, Southern New York State and Southeastern Connecticout areas)
I hope this has answered your question

To Jazi: Philadelphia as part of South Jersey Metro? How'd you come up with that one? That's like saying that the continental US is part of the US Virgin Islands.
