i have a 05 cobalt ss supercharged with 16,900 miles on it. I doubt the clutch is going bad due to the low miles but I would like to know what to look for if it does? What are some things i will notice when the clutch starts to go bad?

Mileage has absolutely nothing to do with the clutch being good or bad I have seen people burn up clutches in a few thousand miles. If your clutch seems to catch with the petal higher than before is a sign Slipping under a strain is a sign.

It depends on how it was driven, it is possible that the clutch could be going bad. Some people drive down the road with their foot on the clutch and that will wear the clutch out fast.

When you have it in gear and floor it, the engine races and you gradually pick up speed. You may also get a burning smell, and you may hear some noise from the clutch area.

good luck.

shade is completly correct. If you smell something burning or see smoke coming from your car then its probably the clutch. Later as the clutch gets progressivly worse the car will start grinding gears. then if it gets worse still the car will eventually stall and you wont be able to drive it.

fordman is right to test the holding power in a clutch put in a high gear and hold the breaks and slowly let it out if it stalls the engine it is good if the engine keeps running it is slipping it is time to replace i work on big trucks and that is how dad taught me to test them
