I am a freshman at college and when i moved in with my first roommate i had some problems with him. He snored, he was messy, and overall not a nice person at all. I requested for a new room and roommate, moved out, and i am now happy, well sort of. When i first moved in I gave my roommate $90 for my half of the microfridge and when i moved to ther room that i was going to be sharing another fridge with I asked for the money back. He wouldn't give it to me! I was so mad I yelled at him and now he won't give it back and I don't know what to do. Please help.

Sorry, but if he bought or rented the fridge with the assumption that you would be sharing it, and it was your choice to move out, he doesn't owe you anything. That is one of the consequences of the choice that you made to move.

Contact your college's Dean of Students office to see if there is anyone who does conflict mediation. Mediators are specially trained to help people discuss and resolve conflicts in a civil manner.

If not, your Resident Assistant or Hall Director may be able to mediate for you.

Would you have gotten back the $90 at the end of the year? Remember, you did get some use from the Microfridge. Try going back to your old roommate, apologize for yelling, and offer to compromise. Maybe ask for a portion of your money back that is equivalent to how much use you got from it (like $60).

Then again, if living with him was so bad, $90 might be a small price to pay.

Take it as a lesson learned. If your roommate was the one that moved out, would you give him his $90 back?

Was your new roommate going to charge you $90 to share the micofridge too? If not, I wouldn't stress over it.

learn the lesson and always get your own stuff. be lucky its only $90.

Well, not much you can do if you don't have a contract or anything. You will have to chalk it up to a bad experience and press on.

The housemate sounds jealous. You should be able to shower with your girlfriend if you want to.
