To those that keep saying I must be young...tomorrow I'll be 26 and I believe birthdays are a celebration...so to those that don't..stop taking everything so seriously.

Well, when you reach the age of 21, everything is cool. I mean you are legal to drink. When you hit 30, people start to laugh at you and the kids say "Dad your getting old". Then comes 40. Getting ready to be a grandfather. There is the whole mid-life crises thing, not to mention hearing those dreaded words. " I bet you wife was really HOT back in the day". So, have a nice day, and don't send me a birthday card. LOL

I believe it's because as one ages, especially women, they are more aware of the youth they have lost and don't want to be reminded of it with a celebration. I point to women, because life as an "older woman" means you're most likely to loose your mate to a younger woman, judged on your looks, rather than your achievements. Look at examples in the movies. Sean Connery 77, leading man in his sixties as well as Clint Eastwood now 71, Robert Redford 71, Michael Douglas 63, Al Pacino 67, Tommy Lee Jones 61, Harrison Ford 66, Jack Nicholson, now 73,. Heck, look at Liam Neeson 55, Dennis Quaid 53, John Travolta 53, Kevin Costner, 52 Tom Hanks 51, Kevin Bacon 49, Viggo Mortensen 49, Val Kilmer 48, George Clooney 46, Tom Cruise, 45, Jim Carrey 45, Brad Pitt 44, Nicolas Cage 43, and Johnny Depp, 44, playing action, romantic, roles (Pirates of the Caribbean) vs the leading ladies in their 40's, 50's and 60's. What kind of roles do the leading ladies in their 40's, 50's, and 60's, usually end up getting. Jodie Foster 45, and Diane Lane 42, are rarities.

Personally I do it because I don't want to think about getting older. The othe reason is I have a daughter and her birthdays are going to be way more fun than mine from now on so why take the spot light from her.

Birthdays always matter. Some people just tend to not make as big a deal out of them as they get older.

Birthdays should be celebrated as possible.
After all it was the day one was born!

The only sad thing is when none of our relatives remember about one's birthday. Or they "forget" it at purpose.
If a person doesn't call me on my birthday they know for sure I'm not going to call them either. And there are no excuses to forget a birthday because there are lots of options to remember such as agendas, birthday reminders software, using the calendar feature on nokia and other cellphones.
If a person doesn't remember about other people's birthday, it means he/she doesn't care about them.
If they don't care about a simple day such as a birthday, they aren't going to care about, for example, to call when one has an accident, or is sick.

probably because when you are younger, you are growing and the age span between people seem wider. for example, a 13yr old going out with an 18 yr old seems like a huge gap, but an 80 yr old with an 85 yr old does not (both 5 yrs apart). so when you're younger, every year counts a little bit more because you grow more, as opposed to when you're older, people seem not to change as much over one year.

Whatever, I still want the presents! :) People like to stop counting because it makes them feel old. I like to shock people by telling them my age & seeing their reactions. I had someone think I was 25 today! It was so nice of them!

because they want to act mature and make pretend there not kids anymore and others are to busy and some just get bored from having the birthday to many times.
