I'm not a progressive and I've heard of him. He was a civilian advisor to General MacArthur in Japan after the Second World War and brought about most of the post-war progress in that country. American managers are nudged towards studying his methods. At the same time Japanese managers are nudged towards studying the management ideas of Douglas McGregor. Curiously, there is little official recognition of Mister Deming in Japan. There is a statue of Douglas McGregor in Chiyoda-Ku, the financial center of Tokyo.
