It's my husband's fish and we have had it for four years but he doesn't know what kind it is. It's about 7 inches long and about 3 inches from top fin tip to bottom fin tip. It's greyish silve and has a big mouth. It ate one of the three oscars I bought a few months back so I guess he's aggressive. I hope this is enough details to identify it. Thanks

it might be an arowana, jardinis are extremely aggressive and will kill most tankmates.

certainly rocket gars and other species like fw baracudas can eat smaller oscars but i doubt it is this.

look into arowanas, but they are much longer thsan 7 inches in 4 years.

That's really not a lot of information to go on. My first guess would be an iridescent shark. If this is the case, yours is still tiny - yes, that's correct - these can get around 4 feet long. This is a link with a photo of a juvenile: http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/318.htm and at different ages: http://tropicalfishgallery.com/species-gallery/catfish/hypophthalmus.html

I that's not it, try browsing the photos in these links:

If the fish is thin (side to side), it might be a piranha, or a particularly aggressive angelfish.

The fact that it ate another fish doesn't necessarily mean that the fish is aggressive - most fish will eat any other that they might be able to fit into their mouths (and for some, this can be up to about 2/3 their own length). They will also eat fish that die of other causes (no matter what the size) by picking at them. Your "mystery fish" may just need to be kept with fish nearer it's own size.

based on the description gray silver has a big mouth and ios carnivorous since it ate your other fish it might be an arowana but since you have had it for 4 years it should be bigger than 7 inches

I'm guessing its an arowana. They are pretty aggressive and eat any fish you give them. Even oscars can't beat arowanas
