well most humans who are suffering get hospice or hospital care in which they get pain control so that they don't have to suffer. For many Euthanasia is considered suicide since the person has to consent. If there are resources there to make euthanasia available then there should be adequate pain control so that a person shouldn't have to suffer in the first place.

I agree with your principle.
I believe in the case of animals, in some instances, people have a different moral code...In the case of humans, many rely more on spiritual or religious beliefs to determine their thoughts or decisions on euthanasia. Even to Christians an animal is an animal, to some ...nowhere near humans on Gods intended scale..(or other religious "God")
They then May feel to end the life of a person is not in their hands, doing so before God (other) intended is unchristian like, a sin, etc.
An animal to them is below this standard...human euthanasia then is murder..
again, this is not all true of all people or spiritual truths...just another thought approach..
to me, this is a valid question and I do not see how then, assuming human life is more precious, you would not then find more acceptance in ending their sufferings.
Again, my two cents....
thanks for thought provoking question...the what vegi would you be ones are fun...but once in awhile...this is nice too!

I think there are two situations where it would be acceptable. The first: Is the person brain dead and being kept alive by machines? If its the result of head trauma the likely hood of them waking after six weeks is very unlikely and even if they do their quality of life will be reduced. As long as their not in any pain its up to the family. You do hear miracle stories. I wouldn't like to tell a perent their baby will never wake.
The second: Are they in soo much pain they can't cope. This angers me. Some people have terminal illness and beg people to end it. Then they send them home and ask their loved ones to watch them suffer. Then punish them if they help end it. Its wrong, if a person is sound of mind but not sound of body they have "the right" to choose.

I don't expect people to suffer. In case I end up in such a situation where I'm doing nothing but suffering, I would request something like that so I wouldn't just keep dragging on when there is probably no chance of my survival, like if I was a vegetable.

We allow animals to die with more dignity than we let our loved ones. I had an agreement with my mother to "pull the plug" if she asked me too, or if she was a vegetable. I'm glad I didn't have to but I would have. There is no dignity or honor in suffering before you die. The problem is that ,it is considered murder or suicide and the "Right wing" Conservatives wont let it happen. Yeah for the moral majority. They say its wrong to kill, except when oil is involved or billions of dollars in profit. Then we can invade and overthrow governments, spawn a civil war with both sides hellbent on genocide. But hey... My dying sister suffering from the final stages of cancer that throws up everything she eats, has no hair,is 5' 5" and 84 lbs with no chance of ever recovering lays in bed in agony waiting to die doesn't deserve the release. FOR SHAME ON US!! We allow more dignity to animals! If we were anamals we would be eaten or die without the life support. In the end who is more the animal...

People have souls, and because of that we are not to determine the time of human expiration. We can do this for animals and plants because that's what we are put here to do, in part, and by all that we know they don't have souls. Termination of human life is not acceptable unless under the most extreme of cercumstances regardless of how destitute that human life may be. When the opportunity for life termination of human(s) is a factor it should only be carried out by a decision of a host of individuals and backed by science and/or other pertinent criteria...If you disagree, please feel free to let me know, K...take care...

We find it abhorrent to take another's life because it is innate to save our species - at any cost.
I believe in cases of severe, irreversible physical pain and inevitable death, euthanasia should be a choice for the individual.

That is what we are. Very few sane persons make animals suffer due to their own anger, attachment, ego, hatred and desires.

I believe there is a reason for everything that happens to the human race. I do not agree when others decide what should happen to us.On the other hand, if it is our own choice, I think our agency should be respected.
