Wow, I'm not the only one thinking that... Did you realize we live in an anti civilization in witch we limit our own potential by surrendering our control over our lives to others. ie politicians, ministers, mates, friends. When we are born we are filled with wonder and the desire to achieve and succeed but our hopes and dreams are destroyed by laziness, lies and submission. Jesus was a Philosopher, speaking against the church and the control they had over the peasants. He said that god was in all of us... what do you think that means? God has been used as leverage by the church to control the masses for centuries... after the spread of Christianity began they had to kill Jesus. How else were they to twist his word to fit their agenda?

Religion.... Well where do I start? First, I do believe in a higher power, I do not believe in all the writtings that come with it. I think, and this is just my opinion so don't get upset!I think god was created to explain all those things we didn't understand... like thunder and earthquakes. We were led to believe that bad things happen because we were naughty. The thing is when you talk about religion, some ppeople can't just agree to disagree. They've been told from birth by everyone they know that this is how it is. Its called conditioning. The majority of holy writting, the scrolls, the bible, the kuran (sorry if I spelt that wrong) Are all beautiful, and on the side of good. People need a greater purpose and confort to make life here seem worth while. God is hope! No matter how bad it gets, we need to feel we're not alone, we are loved and when its over... it will be worth it. We all have a voice telling us to help and give, Maybe that's what god is :)
Everyone is different and these are just my opinions.

I don't believe so because somehow this mythical gods and the fictional Bible you are referring indeed makes human saner just what it's purpose have to be. We ought to follow Nature as our guide to contribute to the general good by an interchange of acts of kindness, by giving and receiving and thus by our skill, industry and our talents to cement human society more closely together man to man. There is nothing betterthan reason, and since it exists both in man and God, the first common possession of man and God is reason.
Have a great day!

That would require that at least a third of the population are wise enough to dispense with responsibility transfer and replacement mommy-daddies. Another third would need to be neutral, the one third could do whatever, and they couldn't hurt the rest of society.
Shakyamuni talked about a society like that in one of the sutras.
SGI is trying to create a world where more of the world is enlightened. The example would sway enough of the others to be more attuned to compassion and reality.

Love the name 'Truthseeker'
So here is the truth that has come to my Darwinistic soul.
"Religion endures because it coveys a survival advantage on those who believe."
With me? The universality of Religion implies it is addressing some universal aspect of the human psyche.
I believe Religion is the panacea for the existential crisis.
Man's intelligence, so helpful in struggle for life, acts against the struggle by revealing the end result is always death.
Religion tells man that life, regardless of how it may appear, has meaning; and so helps to retain his sanity, at least in a Darwinistic sense.
It is my impression that Atheism commonly corresponds with falling birthrates.
Keep in mind that Darwin does not ask if a belief is true.
Only the effect a belief has on reproduction or survival.

A good portion of the world has no concept of the "mythical God" and this "fictional Bible" and yet the world still mutated and evolved into what it is today despite that ignorance.

Only if you include the mythical gods of other cultures as well. The biblical god is no more mythical or dangerous than the muslim god, the hindu gods, the Aztec, the Ojibway, the Aborigine or the African gods.

No, I learned lessons from my religion. Without my religion, I'd just be just one of those smoking punk @$$ thugs. I take my religion metaphorically. That way I don't have to sacrafice myself to Jesus. I could just accept the stories metaphorically and live like that. So I know I am a good kid. And it is wrong to judge people if they are jewish or athiest. We are all human.
