I cannot fiqure out why so many employers won't hire me for an entry level IT position I graduated 4 years ago with a degree in Computer Information Systems and have failed yet to land that first entry level in IT. I have applied just about everywhere. I have worked as an adminstrative assitant, subsitute teacher, and para at a school, but have yet been able to get hired in IT industry in these 4 years. I even went back and got a bunch of certifications. A+ , Network+, MCSA, Cisco, but that didn't do anything!

So giving up on the IT industry I am currently in graduate school working on getting a masters in special education, apparently finding entry level jobs with no job experience is very easy in the teaching profession, I see it happen all the times at the schools I have subbed for.

I mean is abandoning the IT industry a right move? I fiqure it is since during 4 years after graduating never could land that IT job, so I fiqure going in education is the smarter .

You really don't give enough informtion. My answer would be different if you got your degree at MIT that it would be if you got it at the University of Phoenix. Perhaps your school wasn't respected. I don't think people pay much attention to certificates. A MS in computer science may be better.

Perhaps it is you. You might want to talk to someone who could help you interview better.

It may also be that people want someone who understands the business rather than someone who understands computers. I've found that computer science majors often spend too much caring about how pretty their programs are rather than if they give their user group what they need.

When I was a systems guy, I preferred hiring a math major or a chemical engineer to program over an IT guy any day. They cared more about serving the user group.

The teachers getting hired have internship experience, not NO experience. They also have subject area training- like an MS.

It seems the job market is over-saturated with persons trained in IT. SPED is a great field to get into, and maybe you can find a way to connect the two fields (e.g. technology in SPED; see http://www.tamcec.org/).

Best wishes!
