You can make crocheted bracelets. Crocheting is really simple to do. You can usually find books on how to do it at a craft store- how to make crocheted jewellery.

You can also us string doing various knots to make designs on them.

Just play & have fun to see what you come up w/- this is how things get created. :)

I used to Crochet using a wooden spool. I had 4 small nails with very small heads hammered closely around the central hole.
At first you have to pull the finished part of the tube out from inside the hole using the long end of the string with a crochet hook. (It looks like a tube with 6 inch strings on the ends when it's made.) I used crochet string. If you use thinker string, like hemp, you'll have to drill a bigger hole, I would think. What you do, is wrap all four (nails) with one loop of the string, and hook the string on each of the four nails with the loops that are already one them. You can actually put a small item like a bead or crystal inside the "tube" before it's finished.

Macrame; you use a thicker string, any color but a nice cream is good. You can find books on special designs at your library but basically you have 4 strands of string, you then take the #1 strand and #4 strand and tie them into a square knot (enclosing the #2 and 3 strands).

This link is for a site I use for my Girl Scouts but it's much too complicated for them but you might like it. It has beads, but just a few and you could still leave them out. Even with the beads, I think it's still pretty cool looking for a teenager.

If you use thicker string, the size used for shoelaces, you can make this design:

They can be made without decorative knots, or with as many as you like.

An other way is to use scoudidou, boondoggle or gimp patterns, can be used with almost any kind of string, beads where shown are just optional:
