No the positive wire should not get hot. You say it has become disconnected. This should tell you something is not tight. If the wire is loose it will cause the charge light to do exactly what it is doing. It also won't charge your battery. Find out why it is loose and fix it

WHEN ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ARE HOT,IT CAN BE FROM ARCING....MAKE SURE THAT WIRE IS TIGHT,PUT SOME LOKTITE RED ON IT ,LET IT SET FOR 12 HOURS AND IT WILL NOT FALL OUT AGAIN,BUT MY BEST GUESS WITH INFO OFFERED.....LOOSE CONNECTION ON ALTERNATOR OR BATTERY,AND CLEAN YOUR BATTERY TERMINALS.

Sounds like a bad voltage regulator.
