It is the science of psychology merged with sociology. Not only is the individual studied as in psychology alone and not only are groups studied as in sociology alone. The social impact of something is studied and the psychological outcomes and also in reverse - the psychological impact of say - the gunman on the college campus and the social outcomes - eg more security - more vigilance from students - reporting - monitoring - the psychological impact of it - fear - mistrust - people moving inward more into closed groups from the fear - . I hope that this is a succinct answer and that you have the justification you desire in my answer. EG psychosocial responses are from a group as the word social is joined to it - instead of the individual alone being studied the group is included

Studying humans is so interesting.
But is it a science or not is the thing.
Yep they can be studied, they can
participate in surveys, used as guinea pigs,
experimented on.
The results may vary depending on whether
the person was truthful or not,coz they have
a brain to change their answers to suit their
mood, or just to alter your study.
Humans are not like animals that can be put into
a group and analysed in that way. They are too
diverse and unique. No two are the same.
You can study them in different tests and
observe their behaviour and then they can go
and change the whole direction of the test
by altering there behaviour.
They are too clever to be scientifically
put into a little box labelled humans.
Coz no two are the same and the way
they are one day
is not the way they are over time.
They are extremely complex and
their brain and logic out ways any
manoeuvre to analyse their
behaviour. Humans are great to study
and you learn so much by studying them.
But the more you study them ,the more you
just can't figure them out. So I guess they can't fit
into a scientific box ,they are too diverse a group
to get an accurate result. And they change
with new trends all the time. They adapt to
new stuff and they are forever adapting to
fit the world they live in. Which also helps
keep them alive, they will keep adapting and
changing to fit the new conditions.

Nothing to do with the human mind can ever be truly 'scientific' in the literal sense. Yes we use logic (sometimes) but there is a whole lot more than logic going on in human brains and while attempts to quantify it and map it out have some useful purposes, I suspect that we will never describe it fully or completely. (and thats probably a good thing)
For example I.Q. has some useful applications but in the long run its mostly meaningless. It doesn't (and can't) 'measure' one's intelligence. It is culturally biased and even if you correct for that it can't measure all the faculties of the brain (not even close).

i'm no longer conscious of the teachers your college has in innovations. although do no longer sink the boat yet! the subject of sciences are particularly to grant you a concept of being the explorer whilst searching for solutions and there may be lots whilst psychology "comes around the corner!" Sociology has a similar format via fact that with out sociology there may be no psychology, so we purely placed those in a similar bucket and combine-em up!

This statement can NOT be justified; there is no way that it could be considered a science. It is at best an art, like being a doctor.

social psychology deals with behaviors and mental processes of group mentality; it can also be called sociology.
Social psychology tries to explain why certain groups, be it gender, culture, religious, or otherwise do what they do. Psychology studies the behavior and mental processes of individuals, Social Psychology takes that same thing to large groups of individuals creating understanding of how they work. whew!

well its saying to me that society
can be formulated through the use of psychology or in understanding it through psychology and the anomalies and variables that can be predicted with an outcome similar to techniques used in science. A formulae

girlene, That field would encompass the study of even serial killers, Mob mentality, the study of paradigm shifts, etc. Of course it's justified, it gets to the base root of some of our problems as a society.

As a mental health professional with 20+ years experience, now retired, I can tell you that since I know that statement is NOT true, I don't have to justify it. God Bless you.

It is not a science.
Something like the square root of such and such, or this happens and therfor this must happen. These are sciences.
Psychology, if anything is a Social science
