Having recently moved to the bay area from so cal, I was shocked to see the rivalry and disdain bay area/san fran people have for so cal. It is so strange. Having grown up in so cal...we never really noticed the bay area and definitely didnt have a strong rivalry against the area. We were neutral or thought SF was a nice place to visit.

This attitude reminds me of canada, where the US has a neutral opinion of canadians and canadians have very strong opinions of americans.

Whats up with bay area people being so competitive and hateful of so cal? I would think it is against the left wing liberal values of tolerance and acceptance.

Yep, I've noticed it too - I grew up in the Bay Area, where people (including me) were consumed with saying nasty things about the Southland. And you're right - now that I live here, no one could be bothered. And you're also right about the similarity with Canada vs. US (I lived in Montreal for a year). I honestly think it is the geographic equivalent to little man syndrome. But - why worry about it?

In my humble opinion i'd thoroughly get excitement from a journey between area & MVP. not in basic terms would this be a great kick butt journey yet it would be very annoying for people who're not followers of those 2 to % a winner. i think of by skill of the time this journey got here to the top the two wrestlers would recieve a sparkling chanced on comprehend from the wrestling followers yet their fellow wrestlers as nicely. A journey between HBK & Taker is a no-brainer. HBK can't carry a candle to Taker even without the Takers Choke carry. No this journey grew to become into over formerly it even all started, Taker Wins!

I would say that 90% of the rivaly is sports related. I would venture to say that it is no more than any other in the US. It's not like we're shooting at each other and it's generaly good natured.Still hate the Dodgers. Some of it is transportation issues.SF has maintained most of it's public transportation while LA has gone car/freway crazy. You probebly never took the trolly to playland, the bus to tam or a bus anywhere.LA has left a legaciy to be dismantled and a social culture to be overcome.

Lots of us in the Bay Area aren't that way but i know that some are. Besides the Dodgers-Giants rivalry in baseball, i think the reason for this is that some San Franciscans like to think that they're "better" than people from other places. In other words, they're snoots. They might also be masking the fact that they're jealous because SoCal is more popular in the media and has nicer weather. (That will offend some people, i am sure. :-))

So many people in the Bay Area are from so many other places around the world that they'll probably forget about the SoCal rivalry after you've been in town for a while. Hang in there, and welcome to the Bay Area.

You are wrong, if you drive I-5, you will see how many people visit each other at weekend. Southwest has over 100 daily flights between 3 bay area airport to 5 southern california airport.

LA, SF is pretty similar, SD, Orange is pretty similar in politicics.

No offense, but I spent some time in san Diego and found that there was an equal disdain for the NorCal folks.

The fact that Southern Californians "never really notice the Bay Area" has a lot to do with it. That smacks of a lot of smug egocentricism to a lot of Northern Californians.
