Yes, lawyers are soulless androginous being that sap the life out of defenceless ignorant victims. they gained this image by representing evil people and their ideals regardless of moral implication, this also gains them the nickname mouthpiece (speaking for someone else)
they rank first. marketers are a close second, praying on the weaknesses and insecurities of targetted market groups in order to gain profit.
("do you hate the way your fat slides over your belt so everyone can see, try new [insert brand name here]")
corrupt politicians are third, as most of them are corrupt it's pretty easy to generalise and it is therefore expected, it's not surprising or underhand.

As you described; "Like you see law and order defense and their helping guilty people but you say to your self that no lawyer would actually do that. Well ive gone to feild trips and seeing people who have killed and walked away cause of a bogus fluke in the system that lawyers expose. Im not saying that all lawyers are bad but id say 90% are bad. What are some other careers that you think are bad and do you think lawyers are evil?" it might help you.
Best of Luck :)

It is because lawyers are highly educated, go through rigorous testing of logic, knowledge, and ethical considerations, and are given a license to present themselves as agents acting on a client s behalf, AND YET, they can and will use their knowledge and sanctioned power to work against their client s expressed or obvious interests, all to make money and gain influence at their client s expense. And all their colleagues and the state bar, who purports to regulate attorney conduct, will look the other way, or watch and say nothing, or as is often the case, aid their corrupt colleague so as to gain favors. Lawyers exploit the heightened emotional states and tremendous stress of family law cases and nothing is off limits for lawyers greed, not even the best interests of a child. The reason that lawyers are portrayed as evil in popular media is because the shoe fits and the likeness is so real and makes sense to the viewer.

Because they can make money either way and have nothing to lose whether they win or lose the case.... they get paid (unless it's a personal injury/insurance case). But defending a rich criminal is just as profitable as defending a rich innocent person.
My ex dragged me into court on a false DV charge, (just to file that she hired an attorney and paid them good money), then I fought it and it got it dragged out to several hearings and dismissed, which they didn't expect, that cost her more and the lawyers made more money. Now I'm suing her for it and her lawyers are making even more money. I have only used a lawyer once so far and paid a small flat fee, she's paying hers over, and over, and over and her attorney must be loving it. When they get a client that is all emotinally connected they just keep egging em on, "let's get him, we'll do this next".
I don't deal with lawyers unless I absolutley have to, for this very reason, but there are some decent ones out their.

The perception that lawyers are "evil" comes from the disparity we have about what we expect from lawyers that represent US versus the rest of the world. God forbid, if you were ever charged with a crime, say a DUI, even if you should not have been on the road after drinking, I would reckon to bet that you would want your lawyer to do absolutely everything possible to defend the case and get you off if possible. On the other hand, when someone else is charged with a crime, we want their lawyers to seek truth, justice and the amercian way and for the person charged to go to jail.
The principle behind the defense of someone charged with a crime is that they should not go to jail unless there is a sufficient amount of evidence to prove they committed a crime. That may sound arrogant but it is what guarantees each of us basic freedoms. Does that mean that some who committed crimes do not get convicted or serve lighter penalties than they otherwise would? Probably, but if it saves one innocent person who is wrongly convicted of a crime, there is something to it.
Taking away someone's liberty is a big deal. They are out of society for say 20 years. When they go into custody, they leave society. Their house will be sold or foreclosed, credit card bills will go into delinquency, their business or employer may go out of business or move, and, guilty or not, they lose track of their friends, and their kids grow up not knowing them and making new lives for themselves. In the last few years, many people who have been in jail for 25+ years have been found innocent by DNA evidence and they have lost a good part of their lives sitting behind bars unjustifiably. For most lawyers, including me, that is a BIG problem.
Lawyers collect information, and if a plea is in their client's best interests, they will recommend it. If the charges can't be proven, I'll point it out and get my client a lighter sentence or probation, counseling or something else that will give him or her a second chance to clean up their act if necc.
For what it's worth, that's my two cents worth.

Lawyers are required by the bar to defend their clients to the best of their ability. A defense lawyer has to fight tooth and nail for his/her client even if they deserve to go to jail. If they can find a loophole or create reasonable doubt with the jury, they have to do it.
Litigation lawyers are a different story, though. I'm talking about the ones who advertise on TV that they will get you 6 figures for your botched surgery, or for your injury at work or in a car accident. They fight hard to get their clients tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars because they get to take their cut (1/3) of it afterward. Some of them are actually in it to help their clients, but most of them are just taking advantage of our sue-happy society. They, as well as many of their clients, don't care that they are helping to drive up the cost of health care and insurance premiums.

It is like the hypocratic oath for doctors. It is the attorney's job to provide the best legal defense that they can. If they do less than that, there can be a mistrial and they can be disbarred.
Unfortunately, they have taken that to mean that they have to tell their clients the best way to lie, and do everything that they can to supress evidence. It is sick. I studied law for almost 2 years before my morals got in the way. Making a living by helping people lie, cheat, and break the law was too disgusting to me...and DA's do not make enough money for my taste.

Lawyers are taught in law school, that a defense has a duty to get the client off any way possible, and a prosecutor has a duty to get a conviction any way possible. Thus, a trial is not about right and wrong. It's about who can afford the best lawyers. Actually the lawyers' duty is to see that the defendant gets exactly what he deserves- no more, no less- IOW, justice. But, law schools teach otherwise- strictly un-American.
