I have a 1988 Chevy Cavalier, which according to a certified mechanic needs motor mounts. At a traffic light the steering wheel shakes a lot. Yet he says it's not a safely issue, but it seems to have gotten worse. My question is how much do you think it will cost to replace? He did not tell me either because they are too difficult to replace or he didn't want to do it. There are three mounts. And it seems to shake more and more everyday. It's gotta be a safety issue. Please , anyone? TY

Motor mounts aren't hard to replace. All you need is a floor jack and wrenches of the proper size. Cost, I don't know. But it's just the cost of the parts. Try ebay first, then other online merchants. A Chevy dealer should be your last resort. They'd be the most expensive.

All three and the transmission mount also because if it's get worst by now the shake may have damaged it. Go to a better shop, really sound like he doesn't want anything to do with the job. No not really that bad a job. Is a safety issue now!

IT is a hard job on this car, because the motor is cramped,
and the parts are not cheap. in a good repair shop i would say $170.00 labor only. is not a safety issue but you can break other parts or an axle wich is more $$$ to spend on that crappy car. as you would know by now, ChevyCavalier was a lemon.

No they are not difficult to replace but you need to have a way to support the engine. When you remove a mount the engine will shift then your s.o.l. Take it somewhere for a second look. My guess is, if it is a mount it most likely is only one.
