We just found out last week that we are having a little girl (due in Feb.). I am totally excited! except for one thing - my husband wants to name the baby Helena in honor of my best friend who died a couple of years ago. I think it is a incredibly sweet gesture but I don't think I want to call her that name and be reminded of my grief and sadness every time I say it.

So I suggested that we use Helena as a middle name but so far he doesn't like any of the first names I've come up with - like Rachel and Isabel.

I know I have quite a few months to work on this - but it took forever to get him to agree with our first daughter's name so I have to come up with something soon!

Thanks in advance to everyone who answers! I really appreciate the help!

Congrats on the pregnancy! Little girls are so much fun, you'll have a blast! I love it, and my daughter is only 10 months old!

I think it is a beautiful name to use. I named my own daughter after a friend of mine who passed away. I think that with the name, you may start to say it and think of the wonderful times that you and your friend shared, rather than the sadness of her passing. Also acknowledge how incredibly honoured your friend would feel, that you valued her so much, that you would be prepared to name your own daughter after her.

I think Isabel Helena works better than Rachel Helena. You really need a name that has a sophisticated tone to it, like Helena does.

How about:

Miriam Helena
Charlotte Helena
Grace Helena
Catriona Helena
Ruby Helena
Scarlett Helena
Monique Helena
Sylvie Helena
Clarissa Helena
Victoria Helena
Sophie Helena
Mercedes Helena
Violet Helena
Joy Helena - I particularly like this one, as it will remind you, of the joy of your friendship with her
Felicity Helena
Corinne Helena
Caprice Helena
Maeve Helena
Faith Helena
Yasmin Helena
Tamsin Helena
Serenity Helena
Rhiannon Helena
Therese Helena
Mirabel Helena

Rachel Helena is very beautiful. Well, have you ever though of calling her Helena, and calling her Lena for short? I agree, I wouldn't want to name my child after someone who caused me so much grief.

Perhaps..

Charlotte Helena
Isabelle Helena
Gabrielle Helena
Danielle Helena
Michelle Helena
Christelle Helena (pronounced chree-stell)
Nicole Helena

Hope this helps!
