First of all, you need to know if your state is an at will employment state, which means an employer can terminate an employee without a cause. Second, if they are not, you have a right to find out why they did that, and depending on how long you were there, you should be entitled to your postion back. Th emost important thing is to find out about the at will employment before you make your next move. File for unemployment, the agency will send your employer a paper that must be filled out and this will state the reason you were "laid off". You can also express all of these issuse to them and ask them where you can go to from here.

did they actually tell you you were "laid off"? If you were laid off then there is still the possibility you could be called back to work. Phone them and ask what's happening, if your position is open, can you come back to work, do they have other work for you, and, when do they anticipate you can return.

Some employers have "work at will" which means they can let you go with no reason for your dismissal. You need to know what's going on so that if you were let go then so you can file for unemployment compensation or food stamps or something till you get employed again.

File for unemployment while you find a new job.

(As long as they don't say you were fired. If they say that, you have to stick to your guns and fight for it)
