well you don't gain any points, you get:
2 points for answering a question:
10 points for someone choosing your answer as a best answer
5 points for choosing a best answer for your question
100 points for just starting yahoo answers (this can only happen once)
you lose 5 points for asking a question
and you loose 2 points for deleting an answer
those are the main ways to earn and lose points
