It is definately worth it IF YOUR ENGINE REQUIRES IT. Otherwise you will suffer poor engine performance and possible long time engine damage. However, if you use it because you think it will help your engine perform better even though your owner's manual calls for 87, then you are wasting your money. Octane rating seems to be one of those things that everybody thinks they understand but nobody does. It octane in your fuel is just a measure of how fast it burns in the cylinder. Because of the way higher performance engines are set up, they require a slower burn. You should only use what is recommended by your owner's manual. Anything higher than that is foolish. And don't let someone else tell you otherwise. I am a mechanic and I speak the truth.
Higher octane is worth the money if your engine needs it because a few extra cents for a gallon of gas sure beats an engine repair bill.

It's normal. But if your car don't need it than why use it. If your car only require the lowest grade, then just use that. There is no benefit on putting premium. In fact in newer cars that require premium gas, you can use the lower grade because the ECU can compensate the the lower grade but you will not have the maximum power that the engine can put out.

Premium fuel is only needed for high compression motors, ie high performance or if using an engine chip/reprogrammed computer with a tuner.
Any normal vehicle is built to run on low test gasoline - it wouldnt hurt maybe to run a mid grade/high test once in a great while, but keep in mind, the computer adjusts for these factors- it might run worse on high test.

No, the only reason you would need to buy premium or even silver is if you have a high performance engine.

If you drive a high performance car, then YES YES YES! Your engine could seize up if it doesnt have the correct fuel. If you are just putting it in a normal car, then no, it isnt.
What kind of car do you drive? and check your manufacturers book, my ex had an 1990 eclipse turbo thats engine seized because he wasnt putting in a high enough grade.

No.check the manufacturer in your cars owners manual.octane is the only difference, nowadays most cars are fuel injected, the performance ratigs are based on the type of car, sports, racing, etc, acceleration potential is common to all public vehicles,so its up to the drivers pocket.

most cars run fine with regular unleaded. the only car that i have heard that require premium gas are your higher priced cars. Cadillacs, Lexus, jags etc.

if the manual says its recommended, dont' bother. 87 will work just fine. the difference is negligible at best. if it says premium is required, then it might be a good idea to.

If your car engine doesn't require it, don't waste your money. You are giving them enough money already.
