I have a 2000 mustang 3.8 v6 I can jump start it an drive it but if i let it sit for a while the battery is dead i replaced the battery and i recently replace the starter i not sure what to do because normally if the alternator is bad a car will die when driving it once the battery has ran out of charge but this isnt the case. It just dead after sitting any ideas?

I just changed the starter and alternator Now and its still doing the same thing i have no after market amp of any sort i just let it sit for a awhile and its dead. I m not sure if the starter i bought is faulty or if its something else again its a 00 mustang 3.8 v6 im out of idea anymore answers ?

Are you sure that your alternator is charging the battery? To find out, get a voltmeter and put it in the DC setting and put the black probe on the negative post of the battery and the red probe on the red post. Start the car and see if you are getting more than 14 volts, normally between 13v-14.7v. If you are not then the alternator is not charging the battery. If you are, then you have a voltage leak. Look for any bad ground or if you have an aftermarket amp, see if it turns off when you turn off the engine. You could have tapped on a wrong fuse for your remote wire on the amp.

You have a short in the electrical system - the battery is being
drained. To find the problem, have your mechanic plug the computer into a diagnostic analyzer and it should tell you the problem. If not, disconnect the main fuses under the hood one
by one and watch for a spark when you remove them. This will isolate the part with a short. Now determine what is in the
bad circuit by looking at the wiring schematic. Often the problem
is a starter or alternator.

with a simple V.O.M check the battery with the engine off, should be 12V to12.5V, with the engine running it should show 13.6V to 14.4V then alternator is working good. If Alt. shows good disconnect all wires from Alt. let sit for 4 hours and test battery again, if same 12V to12.5V then the drain could be through the Alt. If not you may have a bad door switch somewhere or a cable or wire shorting to ground.

take out the fuse for the power door locks and see if it work the next day. it happen to me and was a short circuit on these wires.

Make sure your cable leads are tight and not damaged.
This could cause a battery to draw, thus killing it.
