How do you determine quality? I say what determines quality? Or even who determines quality? If anything it boils down to the individual but since human beings are so absolutely miserable all of the time I do not think they are even qualified to determining their own quality of life. Here is an example. People are notorious for not seeing what they have right in front of them. They always think the grass is greener. "One man says I would be happy if I had more money." Another man thinks he would be happy if he had as much money as the man in the previous quote. One man says lord! If only I had a hot woman like Halle Berry, I would truly have a quality life. Meanwhile a cat like Eric Benet can't wait to get rid of Halle Berry.

As proven many times over, so that theres nothing to prove anymore, the superior quality of life historically people are most secure is the quality of life lived according to the Biblical standards rightly-divided (2 Timothy 2:15) Attested by all Christians all over the world with the motto of: "Always ready to live in order to die and always ready to die in order to live". Because no matter what happens in them while still in the flesh in this earthly tabernacle, they are assured of a perfect eternal quality life in heaven as promised by Jesus Christ, and demonstrated personally by Him when He resurrected from the dead 2,000 years ago. Read the Bible and Almanacs for clear references.

depends on your attitude. if you have a positive attitude... you will find new things to enjoy.
one of my best friends has spina bifida. when he was born, it was not severe. he had a surgery. he could walk, ride a bike, skateboard... like any other kid. then, when he was in 8th grade, the scar tissue was preventing him from growing properly... they did surgery. he's been on crutches or in a wheel chair since.
but my buddy - he loves life. he has found a passion for working on cars. he went to technical school and got a degree as a mechanic. he plays pool on 2 different leagues.

there's always something else to do... you just gotta have a good attitude and be determined to enjoy life.

Should i base my answer to your given example? because determining the quality of life depends on its level, aspect or sense, you know.
Like you can be filthy rich when you met the accident and because of that, you can simply have the best medical services and care in the world or either
you can be in the poorest situation in life that you would rather end up dead than alive.
Anyway,if i happened to be physically debilitated and everything that entails the misfortune, i would still be thankful that i'm alive.
