He cleaned out/deleted the soundcard driver. Just reinstall the driver. It should be in a CD that came w/ the PC or the soundcard. If gone, download a copy from PC maker's website.

You should be able to find the sound card without opening the tower. Look at the back of the tower. Do you see the plug-in slots for your speakers? Those plug-ins are attached to the sound card. If they are there, then the sound card is there.

When you say your friend cleared everything in your computer, do you mean he reformatted the hard drive? If so, he deleted the drivers for your sound card. The drivers are basically software that lets your computer communicate with the sound card.

Most likely you have a CD that came with the computer or with the sound card itself if it was added later. Insert the CD in the CD drive. You will probably see a number of menu choices. Choose "Install Drivers".

If you can't find the CD, you can probably download the drivers from the manufacturer's website. You will have to know exactly the make and model of the sound card in order to do this. You will need to unplug the computer and open the tower, and look at the card that's connected to the speaker plug-ins in the back of your computer. Be careful not to touch the card. Look for a label with the make and model number and write it down. Go to the manufacturer's website and look for an icon or a column heading that says "drivers," and click on it. Find your sound card's make and model and follow the instructions for downloading.

Good Luck!
