Is it a common practice to demand and get it back or is it more common for the Husband to give up that amount?? (by law the money is mine, just not sure what is common about it). THANKS

You could try. If the law is on your side, by all means try.

Sure. Keep on demanding things like the little bot that you are. It has got you this far already. I bet it could get you through three or four marriages more before you decide to grow up.

Ten years ago you fell in love and ask this woman for her hand in marriage with the promise of I don't know to cherish, love, and blah blah blah blah blah. If you didn't have a pre nup your chances are very weak...

My point is let it go....freedom to live again is priceless- $20,000 dollars is a headache....unless you still love this person and enjoy fighting over material things than by all means go for it. But if you are ready to live life by your rules and explore new ventures walk away from it. Simple :)

Life is too short....

I don't think you can ask for the 20K UNLESS you were lending it to her.
I had inheritance when I married...so I got the house and everything in it as part of the divorce settlement but I also had documents to prove that.
You need to talk to an attorney.

Do you still have the money or has it been spent?
If you still have it then by all means demand for it but if has been spent then no there is no legal right to demand for it back.

what happened to the 20k you brought in?
did you invest in something with her
did you merge it into a joint checking or savings?
then guess what
you lost it
as it is community property
