Antifreeze is ethylene glycol, and does not break down when in its pure form or unopened container.
When put into an engine and diluted with water, it flows through all the iron or aluminum and rubber hoses, slowly breaking it down and turns acidic.
It also lubricates the water pump, and is a rust preventative.
Antifreeze will last forever in a sealed container so open up and pour it in.

It is fine to use old, unused antifreeze. It doesn't decompose in the bottle.
