You know how when you are putting letters in friendship bracelets, and you do the forward knot and even backwards knot, you have to make 2 ties on to make one knot?

Well I did that and my letters came out very wide like this:

And I want them to look like this:

So when I am making the backward/foward knots on the letters, do I just tie it once or what?

If not, how do I prevent my letters from looking like that?

Always start red and end with red. Your knots are not tight enough. You need to count the spaces between each letter
that is presented. You are using only two colors. You will need
to use two ties per one knot. Remember when you start with red then you must end in red. Recount your spacing and
tighten up your stitching.

Not much wrong with your letters, you could indeed make the knots a little more tight, but more important, make sure the first half knot is very close to the last knot you made in either string.
And yes, you have to make the two knots together, otherwise your work will loose shape but still have the same problem.

If you like you can make the space between the letters just one row rather than two, and check that all knots that should be yellow are, and are tied tight and in the proper place, now they seem to get lost in the round shapes like the D and S.
If you feel that letters like the E are too big, you can make them shorter, but be careful, they have to stay near the same size as the letters with round shapes.
