Just one? That's tough.
I've tried but no matter what I keep coming back to the league hiring Bettman as one of it's darkest moments. Having a guy in charge who has never played the game and so has no passion for it is moronic and defeatist. He never has grasped that the game will be a hard sell in places that don't see winter unless there has been a huge influx of Canadians or people from the northern states where hockey has become a part of their world, into the area. He has been responsible for two work stoppages that has shamed the game and lost it fans and television network support. He allowed the game to stray from it's traditional roots by allowing an individual skills contest to decide a team game. And he's just not very likable. This last one is bigger than you may realize. As the figure head of the NHL he comes off as an arrogant little prick and in doing so he has angered/alienated many of the game's most ardent supporters. In short, he has not been good for the game even IF he has made the owners money and one day when we look back we will see that this was hockey's darkest hour.

For me, I'd change the Kerry Frasier non-call on calling Wayne Gretzky's high stick in the 1993 Conference Final Kings-Leafs. A Canadiens-Leafs Cup? C'mon woulda been classic.
GO LEAFERS!
Ok maybe that's a little selfish but after that, there's the Bertuzzi, the Berard eye injury and the Konstantinov's car accident .The day Gary Betteman was hired as commissioner perhaps.

Great question. My incident that I would like to erase from NHL history would be the lockout of 2004-05. That black mark upon the league caused a number of "what-ifs", such as if there was a season, would Pittsburgh have been able to pick first in the 2005 Entry Draft? Or if there was a season, would Tampa have made a successful defense of their Stanley Cup victory from the previous season? What about the careers that ended shortly after the lockout was resolved, such as Ron Francis, Scott Stevens, Al MacInnis, Mark Messier, Brett Hull (after a few games), Mario Lemieux, and so on. Would you have liked to have seen one more season out of those guys? The lockout would have also allowed the debut of Alexander Ovechkin one year early, although under the old rules his talents would have been stifled by the clutching and grabbing allowed under an archaic system. What could have been...

Wuuvik...I think that's how it was spelled. Are you talking about Konstantinov?

I'll go with the riot at the Forum in Montreal in the '50s (sorry, the exact year escapes me right now). It was all about Clarence Campbell suspending Maurice Richard for punching a linesman in the face after a Bruin player smacked him across the head with a stick without a call (lot of racial tension between the French-Canadians and Anglophones back then). It's not as dramatic as Masterton, or Konstantinov, but it's up there, I think.

i could could say Gary Leeman. Wayne Babych scored at a 40 objective %. for 3 right now years and grew to become into hampered with injuries. Bobby wood worker grew to become right into an excellent participant, between the youngest 50 objective scorers, then he grew to become a protecting forward. Hakan Loob, how can all of us say Hakan, he left the NHL after his 50 objective season or he probable could have executed it returned, he grew to become right into a factor a interest guy. the persons who stated Mogilny and Brett Hull are idiots certainly Gary Leeman, too undesirable he could not score on the ice besides as he did off the ice.

I agree with many of the answers already mentioned.

I would like to add:

Point awarded for loss in overtime.

Utterly ridiculous. Some games worth 3 points in the standings other games just two.
