half of a french roll but had the hair wrapped like a stick look on top of your head with tendrils on each side and on the nape of the neck? Sorta of the early Doris Day TV show look.

It's pretty hard to describe. At the time I thought it was a great hairstyle

I wore this style for a little while. Then I found the clips that work all too well and started doing the same thing with a nice clip in place. I found it worked better than hair pins.
It was kind of a sassy look, wasn't it?

I remember the tendrils on the sides and at the nape of the neck...but, I can't even come close to getting a mental image of half a french roll that looks like a stick on top of your head, lol...huh....

Yep sometimes, when I left school and started work I had to wear my hair up, so I tried all sorts of up styles. I think today's up styles are a lot softer and easier to do as we have so many hair accessories to help with it now. I am always in Clairs Accessories looking for new clips to hold my mane.

I tried, lord knows I tried, but my hair was too long. No matter how many pins I stuck in it to hold it, a big hunk would fall out and then the whole thing was a mess. I gave up. I did like the look though

I have tried to do a french roll on myself...impossible. I have tried to do a french roll on someone else (my sister)...it looked sloppy no matter what I did.
I was really, REALLY glad when banana clips became popular.
