Yes it is torture. The proponents of it say it is necessary to extract information. However, these sort of unmoral tactics, and extreme depravity shouldn't be allowed period, forget about being government sponsered.
I would prefer if these suspects where just disposed of quickly, then making them suffer so. At least that would show some sort of decency.

No.
This may come as a shock, but terrorists are not generally the sort of person who will politely tell you where their next attack is going to be, or who it is that sells them their weapons.
I mean you could sit down with these guys over tea and cookies and chat about the weather and politely ask them to tell you who runs their network and where they get their IEDs... but you know, these guys think that slowly hacking somebodys head off with a knife is a GOOD thing to do... so good they videotape themselves doing it and post it on the web.... I don't think politely asking is going to get you anywhere.
So you have to ask strongly, you have to break their will to resist, because they DON'T want to tell you.
So no matter what you do it isn't going to be plesant. DUH!
Now, as it was pointed out, watebording does not maim, cripple, or cause permanent damage. Personally I like sleep deprevation, but I think that may have been banned.
It is the best way to get a very necessairy job done.
It is really easy for someone to get a cheap feeling of moral superiority when they are sitting at their computer in their mommies basement eating cheetos and talking big about how bad all the people who are fighting the war on terror are.
If any one of you would care to come up with another way to interrogate these guys that WORKS by all means feel free to suggest it!

Many policeman are required to take a hit with a taser, so they understand what it feels like, and won't be tempted to use it irresponsibly. If the President feels that Waterboarding isn't torturous, perhaps he'd like to give a demonstration to put our minds at ease?

YES.
You will hear claims to the contrary. They resemble--and fall into the same category, as the buly who claims "I was just kidding around" if confronted after pushing or hitting another kid in the schoolyard.
Such behavior is always excused on some pretext by the perpetrators or their syncophants. But uncivilazed acts are just that--and the apologists only betray their own barbaric inferiority.

Could be depends on your definations of torture and really how important is that information.
Lets say your family and loves are being held by the bad guys and you hold the guy with the information to where they are at but is doesn't want to tell you.
In about a hour or so they will be put to death by slow beheadings that is going to be tape.
Be honest are you going to sit there and say please or are you going to break out the water board yourself?

Of course it is torture. Just because some politicians and lawyers say something doesn't make it so.

There isn't a clear definition of torture. In the end, they don't die, and we get our information. And as long as they're terrorists, who cares

Water boarding does not disfigure, maim or kill. Its mild compared to what Muslim terrorists do to their prisoners.
