Yes, I believe having red hair is just because of a deficiency of melanin.

It's possible. I carry the recessive gene to produce a red headed child. My grandfather was 1/2 Scottish and had bright red hair and freckles. My sister has specks of auburn in her hair and my hair is naturally dark brown along with my parents.. so it all depends on the gene you carry

yes, if there is a recessive gene somehwere down the line in both parents, regardless of how far, it's still possible for then to have a red-headed child. genetics always throws a little surprise the in the mix every now and then.

Yes. It happens all the time. Both my parents were black haired; my brother just older than myself had flaming red hair! (When I was younger and grew a beard, I was "Red Beard").

red is a double recessive gene. it's therefore very rare. so the chances are nill for you guys since both families have dark hair.

yes, red hair is recessive and the parents can carry the gene for it, but not have the phenotype. and if you mix teo people eho have the genotype for it, then they can have a child w/ a phenotype for it.
