Turn off the electricity to that light. If you want, you can try the silly potato idea. Then when you discover that won't work, put on your safety glasses and use a pliers to grip the metal shell of the bulb and gently wiggle and turn it to get it out. Be careful not to damage the socket itself. Sometimes I use two pairs of pliers, one on each side. I've done many of them.

Make sure the light is off first, cut a potato in half and use the flat cut off end of the potato to screw the remaining part out. When you press the potato slightly into the light socket the metal part of the light bulb will "dig in" to the potato, giving you some leverage to unscrew the bulb.

Myself, I never use a potato... I use a broom handle (after making sure the switch is off), and jam it up there and turn it... Or, if that doesnt work, then I take a pair of needle nose pliers and grab the silver part and twist it , or maybe even collapse it in the middle and then grab the two pieces so that I can unscrew it that way. I dont like anything wet, jammed up in a socket, so that when I put a new bulb in there it will still have moisture and may short circuit it, or the acid from the potato juice may rust the socket itself... I with you well.. Jesse

Turn the switch off and take a raw potato cut in half and press against the metal and turn. The metal part should come out with the potato

Those potato use ideas are OK if you still have broken glass sticking out...but it doesn't work when nothing is there except metal part. Just make sure power is off....use needlenose pliers...open them a little...stick them into the opening...squeeze together a little and unscrew the metal part.

Get an apple and cut just enough to fit the metal piece of the bulb. Jam it in there and start twisting just don't forget to turn off the power.

Turn off the power to that lamp and then take a potato and cut it to fit up in the metal thing and jam it hard enough to catch hold of and twist it out.

turn off the power and use a pair of pliers, or if you can't turn off the power cut a potato in half and push half of the spud onto the metal and turn to loosen. Good luck with that.
