This is tricky, because you can't really make them up. Like grandmother's silver, these monikers are inherited.
I'd say the most common thing would be a classic, feminine name - say, Abigail or Jane - followed by a family surname.
So things like ...
Abigail Dahlgren
Catharine Kimball
Jane Valentine
There's also the unusual name with the cute nickname - the girl called Carter and nicknamed Coco. Or Annie from Antonia or Tacy from Teresa, Gusty from Augusta. Or even nicknames from both the first and middle names - Anna Darcy becomes Andi.
Fifteen years ago, my graduating class at an independent school - we'd never have called it a prep school - included many of the names that are now super-trendy. Logan, Lawson, Sloane, Elizabeth nicknamed Betsy.
I think your best bet is to search your family tree for something authentic, and then attach a clever and somewhat unexpected nickname.

Hmm...preppy names? Well, some names I like are Paige, Sophie, Alexandra, Leah (pronounced as Lee-uh) and Catherine. I guess these names are preppy. Well, good luck!

Tiffany, Alyssa, Amanda, Kate/Katelyn, Jessica, Rachel, Megan, Lauren, Alexis, etc.. there are so many, but i personally think it depends on the personality not the name. except if its like dolores or maureen or lucy or something, those are no-nos.
