And they don't have that kind of money to pay? Do they just have to spend the rest of their life paying it off?

A judgment shows on their record. If they ever win the lottery or come into money then the person collects. When you go to buy a house, sell a house etc the judgment shows up.

As poster AD stated they will go after any assets you gain. The only possible way out is to file bankruptcy.

you cant sue someone for more money than they have
